THE HISTORY OF NUTRITION Did you know that the first recorded dietary advice was carvedinto a Babylonian stone tablet in about 2500 BC1?Greek Philosopher Anaxagoras suggested the existence of nutrients in 475BC when he stated that food which is absorbed by the human body contains ‘homeomerics’ (generative components)2.To this date, Hippocrates is quoted on his words of ‘let food be your medicine and medicine be your food’. From around 400BC the physician recognized and documented his concerns about obesity and called for moderation and emphasizing exercise3. Nutrition is a science that is constantly evolving.
